Kolkata: A day before the law college, where a student was gang-raped on June 25, reopens, vice principal Nayna Chatterji held a virtual meeting on Sunday with the teachers and non-teaching staff to remind them about safety and security measures. She asked them to carry valid ID proof and told them that they needed to sign for attendance in a different book for the time being, as the attendance record book was out of bounds. Chatterji instructed them to submit a list of files that each of them was handling.
The institute is set to resume classes on Monday after a closure of 12 days following the crime.
A source said, "The virtual meeting was held for fifteen minutes on Sunday evening. Chatterji told us that the teachers and non-teaching staff should come to college at 8 am and leave at 2 pm. No one should stay after college hours. The permanent security guard will leave after ensuring that the building has been vacated and after locking the main gate.
"
The college on Friday issued a notice signed by Chatterji, stating, "After obtaining permission from the joint commissioner of police, I have been directed by the governing body to reopen the college with effect from July 7, from 8 am to 2 pm.
" First-semester students who couldn't fill examination forms have been instructed to attend college between 10 am and noon with their ID cards and necessary documents. Students of the fourth, sixth and eighth semesters have been instructed to come to college with ID cards between 9 am and 12.30 pm for project submission. Fourth-semester students have been asked to submit projects on Tuesday, sixth-semester students on Wednesday, and eighth-semester honours and general students on Thursday. LLM students will have classes from July 8.
On Saturday, the college again issued a notice stating that "in accordance with directions by the HC, we will obey and implement each and every direction.
"TOI tried to contact Chatterji, but she did not respond. An official said, "We are arranging for all kinds of security measures so that our students remain safe.
" A first-year student said, "We eagerly waited for the reopening as we have only a week for the first-semester examination. I hope the admit cards will be issued soon.
" A second-year student said, "We have our project submission on Tuesday.
