  • Kolkata: A 47-year-old man from Narendrapur, known locally as a Trinamool Congress worker, was murdered and his body was dumped a kilometre from his home on Saturday night. The killers had covered the body in a bedsheet, put a helmet on the head, and carried it on a bike before dumping it. No arrest has been made in this connection yet.

The victim, identified as Sudip Naru (47), was a resident of Bakeswar, under Bishnupur police station area. His mutilated body was found on ONGC Road near Nona, on the outskirts of Narendrapur. Officers from Narendrapur police station reached the spot and recovered the body. According to an officer, preliminary findings suggest that Sudip was killed elsewhere, and his body was brought to the dump site.

The body bore multiple marks of injuries. A senior police officer said the nature of the murder indicated it was committed in revenge. "We are probing all possible angles, including personal enmity," the officer said.

Police have launched a probe and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area, as well as speaking to locals to trace the assailants. An officer said, "We have spoken to the victim's family. An autopsy has been conducted. We will wait for the family to lodge a formal complaint.

" A local Trinamool leader alleged that the murder may have been the result of an old rivalry. Another Trinamool leader said, "Yes, Sudip was an active party worker. His sister-in-law is a local panchayat member. But the murder seems to be a fallout of a personal rivalry.

"Sudip's elder brother and panchayat member Pradip said, "After a personal problem in Dec 2024, he had become very withdrawn. Sudip used to wear a gold chain and took only his cellphone when he left home. The assailants snatched everything.

"Panchayat pradhan Bhola Sardar added: "Sudip was involved a personal problem in Dec 2024. The issue was reported to the police then. The murder, we suspect, was in connection to that.
