• City likely to get intermittent drizzles over next two days

  • Kolkata: The city remained cloudy with occasional drizzles on Sunday, even as the Met office predicted more showers over the next two days under the impact of a low-pressure area that formed early on Sunday. Coupled with the monsoon trough that now passes over south Bengal, several parts of the region, including Kolkata, could receive light to moderate rain.

Heavy rain is predicted in one or two areas of South 24 Parganas, Purulia, and Jhargram, though Kolkata is likely to receive intermittent drizzles. "The low-pressure is likely to move westward towards Midnapore, Jhargram, and Purulia. These districts may receive heavy showers. Kolkata and most parts of south Bengal will continue to receive light to moderate rain," said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay.

A bulletin issued by RMC on Sunday said: "Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, a low-pressure area formed over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood at 0830 hrs IST on 6 July 2025. The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height... In view of the system and strong monsoon flow, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely in some districts of West Bengal.
