Kolkata: A 34-year-old woman was found dead in an alley opposite her house in Maheshtala on Sunday. Shilpi Bibi, a nurse, was reportedly alone at home on Saturday night. Her daughter went to a local fair with her aunt, and her husband, Sheikh Nasir, left home around 10 pm on his bike for the Muharram fair.
According to Nasir, he spoke to his wife over phone around midnight. "She asked about our daughter and told me not to get involved in any trouble," he said. Around 2.30 am, a local resident informed him that his wife was lying unconscious outside the house.
Shilpi was found wearing a churidar and a dupatta, which, according to Nasir, was wrapped tightly around her neck. He alleged that someone had strangled her to death. "We are examining all possible angles. No arrest has been made so far. We came to know that the deceased used to work with an NGO," an officer said.
