Kolkata: Three persons were arrested for allegedly defrauding a job seeker by impersonating Eastern Railway (ER) officials and issuing fake appointment letters. The accused reportedly extorted Rs 35,000 from the victim on March 29, 2025, promising employment with the ER.
The accused provided a counterfeit appointment letter and demanded an additional Rs 2 lakh from the victim. However, upon verification, the appointment letter was discovered to be fraudulent, containing forged signatures of railway authorities. The victim filed a complaint after receiving threats from the accused when he confronted them about the fake documentation. tnn
