  • Howrah: A stray dog was electrocuted by a toto inside a govt housing complex on Andul Road in Howrah on Friday morning, sparking outrage among residents and animal lovers. The incident led to the detention of the toto driver, a police investigation, and a road blockade outside the complex.

A black dog was found dead next to a toto outside Block I of the complex on Friday morning. Local residents allege that electrical wires had been wrapped around the vehicle—reportedly by its owner, Soumitra Saha, also known as Bapi—to prevent stray dogs from jumping onto the toto and damaging the seats. Saha, who owns two totos and runs a printing business, lives on the third floor of the same block and rents out the vehicles. Animal lovers alleged that Saha deliberately installed the wires, which led to the dog's death.
