Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC) is celebrating their 30th year anniversary in Kolkata. The event is taking place at Rabindra Kanan Park widely known as Company Bagan in Kolkata from 12-15 July.
Durbar raises voice for the sex workers in terms of their social and legal recognition. The event aims to wipe out the stigma of this profession and change the narrative across West Bengal and beyond.
“DMSC runs community clinics, offers literacy programmes and advocates for legal and social protection of the sex workers and their children,” said Bishakha Laskar, the secretary of Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee. “We are urging the government to recognise the sex work as a work and to ensure constitutional rights for them,” the secretary added.
Despite its achievements, DMSC also faces challenges that continue to haunt the members. Besides all they are fighting for their rights, and making a mark in societal development. Their indomitable journey is commendable.
