• Birbhum SP asked to appear virtually before NCW

  • Birbhum SP Amandeep has got a partial relief in the threat phone call incident as the Calcutta High Court has directed him to appear before the National Commission of Women (NCW) virtually instead of physically in New Delhi.

    The National Commission of Women (NCW) has earlier called the Birbhum SP Amandeep to appear before along with a case diary at New Delhi.

    Justice Tirthankar Ghosh of Calcutta High Court has instructed to appear today at noon sharp virtually before the NCW. The Birbhum SP Amandeep has moved to high court for rejection of this call to appear in New Delhi before the NCW.

    The NCW has initiated a suo motu case after the viral phone call of Anubrata Mondal to Bolpur IC Liton Halder on 30 May. In the alleged phone call, not only Anubrata Mondal threatened the inspector-rank police officer but also used abusive language against his wife and mother after which the NCW took up the case.

    An FIR was lodged by IC Liton Halder and his cell phone was also seized. Anubrata Mondal has accused inspector Liton Halder of being close to zilla sabhadhipati Kajal Sheikh, his arch rival in Birbhum district.

    The SDPO of Bolpur, Ricky Agarwal is the investigating officer of this case. Meanwhile Birbhum Police has withdrawn the Y category security coverage of Anubrata Mondal. The next hearing of this case will be on 8 August in which the justice has directed all concerned people to submit their affidavits.
