• Bengal IT cos seek policy to incentivise green credit

  • Kolkata: Firms working in the fields of AI, data analytics, blockchain and cybersecurity have urged state govt to bring in a green credit policy, aligned with global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards. The rollout of an incentive scheme for green practices will also attract more investments in the IT sector, think stakeholders. With some tech firms selling green credits, companies feel that the introduction of a policy in this regard might in fact create a new business sector in the state's IT industry.

Kalyan Kar, vice-president of Sector V Stakeholders' Association, recently said, "Many tech companies that executed net-zero models successfully are selling green credits. If there is a policy pushing for net-zero infrastructure in the IT industry by way of incentives, green credits can emerge as a separate business sector.

""To attract more investors, it is high time that we get a policy under which incentives will be offered for green practices. We are working on green credits for IT firms across the country," said Madhura Mitra, PwC executive director (Sustainability and Climate Change).

Dipal Dutta, founder of RedoQ, said: "Green credits will help us double down on our investment in the state in sustainable ways.
