  • In a significant step towards improving speed, safety, and operational efficiency, the engineering department of Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division executed a critical track realignment work between Cheragram Block Hut and Belmuri station on the Down Howrah – Burdwan Chord Line.

The work was carried out between 18 and 20 July as a part of track maintenance and optimisation.

To enable the work, a force layout was successfully removed through slewing operations using BCM (Ballast Cleaning Machine) and Tamping machine (MFI) during three separate traffic blocks. The key achievements of the work include improvement of track geometry by correcting the false curve, which will reduce rail wear and enhance both safety and passenger ride comfort. Additionally, two reverse curves—Curve number 27 and Curve number 28—were also successfully removed, resulting in improved alignment and operational efficiency. According to the ER, the achievement significantly would contribute to improved punctuality and reduced maintenance needs, thereby benefiting both passengers and freight operations.
