  • In a major boost to its product portfolio, the Universal Section Mill (USM) of IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Burnpur, has successfully rolled a new structural profile — UB406X178X67.1 — which meets stringent European specifications.

Developed in response to evolving market demand, this new section is widely used in the construction industry and further strengthens SAIL’s presence in the premium structural steel segment. Since its commissioning on 16 June 2015, the USM has consistently rolled its NEX brand of structurals, including channels, beams, and angles, contributing significantly to infrastructure growth and nation-building.

Congratulating the team on this achievement, Surajit Mishra, director in-charge (Burnpur & Durgapur Steel Plants), said, “Expectations from the USM have always been high, and the team has consistently exceeded them.” Diptendu Ghosh, executive director (works), also praised the USM collective and allied departments for their dedicated efforts and encouraged them to continue raising the bar.

This is the third structural profile rolled by the USM to European standards, reinforcing SAIL’s commitment to meeting global benchmarks and expanding its international market share.

Sharing his thoughts, Hemant Kumar Pathak, CGM (USM), remarked, “The team’s phenomenal performance over the past six months has raised standards across all techno-economic parameters and production targets. To meet market demands, we must continuously adopt and adapt. Rolling this new profile beyond ABP targets demonstrates the dedication of the entire USM team.”

With this achievement, SAIL-ISP’s Universal Section Mill continues its journey of innovation and excellence, supporting India’s infrastructure and construction sectors with world-class products.
