• WBSSC announces September 7 and 14 as examination dates for teacher recruitment

  • The West Bengal School Service Commission on Thursday announced September 7 and September 14 as the dates for the teacher recruitment examinations.

    According to the commission, exams to recruit assistant teachers for secondary classes (9-10) will be held on September 7, and for higher secondary classes (11-12) it will be held on September 14. The exams are set to commence from 12 pm with a duration of one and a half hours.

    The recruitment drive is set to fill 35,726 assistant teacher posts in state-aided and sponsored schools.

    The WBSSC launched the application portal on June 16. Initially set to close on July 14, the deadline was later extended to July 21, 5:59 pm.

    The Calcutta High Court Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Smita Das De had dismissed all the petitions filed in the case challenging the notification and rules of the new recruitment process of the School Service Commission (SSC).

    On May 30 the WBSSC issued a notice for the recruitment of 35,726 teachers of classes 9-10 and 11-12 at state-aided schools, abiding by the Supreme Court directive to issue notification by May 31.

    As per the notice, as uploaded on the WBSSC online site, there will be recruitment of 23,312 teachers for classes 9-10 and 12,514 teachers for classes 11-12.

    In April the Supreme Court ordered the termination of 25,753 jobs of teaching and non-teaching staff at government-aided schools at the secondary and higher secondary levels.

    Later the Supreme Court after an appeal from the state secondary education board stated that the ‘untainted’ will receive salaries till December. The remaining 1,804 teachers have been barred from returning to schools.

    On April 17, the Supreme court asked the state government and the school service commission to give affidavits by May 31 about the fresh recruitment exercise to fill up the posts that fall vacant. The Calcutta High Court in July had dismissed the appeal of the SSC and state government to allow the tainted teachers to participate in the fresh recruitment process .

    The Division bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Smita Das De after hearing all sides stated that the appeal is dismissed.
