  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday said that anyone trying to disrupt trade or day-to-day activities during the ‘Nabanna Abhijan' called by Sangrami Joutha Mancha on July 28 can face legal action. Traders, fearing disruptions, particularly around Howrah station, had moved HC against the protest rally.

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh said in his order, "Since the police authorities have refused permission to the organisation on July 28, in case there is any assembly of persons which disturbs the business of the present petitioner and/or other affected persons who intend to carry out their trade/profession or day-to-day work, police authorities would take steps against the violators in accordance with law.

"The Bengal govt had told the HC that police had refused permission to this rally on "cogent grounds.

    "

The ‘Nabanna Abhiijan' was called with a host of demands, including the non-payment of additional DA by the Bengal govt despite an order by the Supreme Court.
