Rs 2 lakh compensation for lightning death victims’ kin

The East Burdwan administration today provided cash relief to six families of victims, who died in Thursday’s lightning.
The dependents of the deceased were handed over Rs 2 lakh each. Most of the lightning victims were marginal farmers and farmland labourers and had fallen victims of the catastrophe while sowing paddy in the farmlands in different blocks.
Sixty year-old Sanatan Patra of Alampur village and Parimal Das (32) of Sherpur village in Madhabdihi PS area of East Burdwan died when a thunderbolt struck them while it was drizzling. One Rabin Tudu (25) was also struck by lightning and he died on the spot at Radha Madhabpur in Ausgram block while planting paddy saplings at his maternal uncle’s farmland. Farmland labourers Abhijit Santra (24) of Raina and Buro Mardi (66) of Chanok village in Mongalkote, and Parimal Das of Muidhara in Khandaghosh were killed while at work in their respective farmlands due to lightning.
