A proposal to establish an export hub for the twin districts of East and West Burdwan was discussed at a preliminary meeting held here today.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently announced that four such hubs would be set up across the state. “One of these hubs has been planned for East and West Burdwan,” said Chandan Pal, general manager of the District Industries Centre, Burdwan. “In today’s preliminary meeting, representatives from 30 export-oriented businesses and enterprises participated.”
The location and land required for the proposed hub are yet to be finalised. Mr Pal said: “From East Burdwan, entrepreneurs involved in rice and rice-based products such as rice bran oil, wooden doll making, jute, dokra handicrafts, shola art, and Sitabhog–Mihidana confectionery took part in the discussion.”
Entrepreneurs from West Burdwan, representing sectors including engineering, coal, iron and chemicals, also attended, officials added.
