• Fire breaks out in plastic warehouse

  • Kolkata: A fire broke out in the Dhapa area of Mathpukur that lasted for more than an hour on Wednesday afternoon. The fire started in a warehouse used to store plastic waste near the Bypass around 3.15 pm and quickly spread across the building before five fire tenders reached the spot and began to control the fire. Locals claim that several nearby shanties were affected, though both police and fire department denied rhis. The fire was finally controlled at 4.20 pm.

    Initially, local residents tried to extinguish the fire using water from a pond, but the intensity of the fire caused it to spread. Several residents, fearing the fire would spread to the shanties, were seen trying to bring out their valuables. The cause of the fire is still unclear. The Pragati Maidan Police said evidence was collected from the spot. No formal complaint was lodged till Wednesday evening.
