  • Kolkata: A young couple was injured, and their daughter was left traumatised in a suspected road rage incident in New Town when they were driving to pick up their elder daughter from school earlier this week.

On Tuesday, four men allegedly got out of a car after it hit the vehicle in which the family was travelling. They physically assaulted the family and threatened them with further harm if a complaint was lodged. The family said they were too traumatised for the first two days before they gathered the courage to lodge a complaint on Thursday.

According to the plaint, the incident happened around 2 pm near Axis Mall when their car was hit by another vehicle on the left side. The woman was in the car with her husband, who was driving, and their younger child seated in the back. The family was on their way to pick up their elder daughter from school.

The woman alleged that the impact of the crash left her disoriented and caused her to vomit. Her husband reportedly sustained injuries and stepped out of the vehicle to confront the other driver when the four men allegedly got out and physically assaulted her husband. They also threatened the couple with further harm if a complaint was lodged.

The accused reportedly identified themselves as extremely influential and allegedly claimed that the local police would not take any action against them.

The family then went to pick up their daughter from school and headed to a private hospital where the woman received emergency treatment. Her husband later visited Bidhannagar State General Hospital for further medical attention. The complainant claimed no traffic police was present at the site when the incident took place and that no bystander came forward to help them.

Cops said they have started a case and are trying to trace the car and its occupants based on the description provided in the complaint and CCTV footage of the site. No arrest has been made so far.
