  • Kolkata: The KMC roads department will complete repair works on all battered stretches across the city if it gets a 10-day dry spell, mayor Firhad Hakim reassured on Friday.

"This monsoon, the rain frequency is more than in previous years. Some important stretches were dug up for utility works, but the rain started when it was our turn to repair those stretches," said Hakim.

Asked about the jarring rides and traffic jams due to bad stretches on EM Bypass, Hakim stated, "I was stuck on Bypass last night. I found the KMC road repairing work was going on. We are taking up the repairing of major thoroughfares, including Bypass, on an urgent basis. We are trying to give commuters and motorists a respite from the problem at the earliest, but the pace of the work depends on dry weather".

"The roads department has already been instructed to put interlocking concrete blocks on the stretches where utility works like CESC, Metro work, telephone, and drainage works have been done," said the mayor.

During the ‘Talk to Mayor' programme, Hakim received complaints about bad roads in residential areas like Kalipada Mukherjee Road at Barisa and Kanchantola Road at Badartola.
