Arrested Bangladesh model’s visa expired in 2021: Kolkata Cops

Kolkata: The Bangladeshi model, Shanta Pal, who was recently arrested from a rented accommodation in Bikramgarh, had established an elaborate network of businesses and acquired multiple Indian documents after her visa expired in 2021, cops said.
She operated these businesses with her husband — an Andhra Pradesh man — whom she allegedly married online, an officer said. The foreign ministry has also confirmed Pal's visa expiration to Lalbazar. This has raised concerns regarding the Foreigners Regional Registration Office's oversight mechanisms. Pal operated a car rental service and made property transactions, among other businesses. She was trying to set up a guest house in New Alipore and had applied for loan. Cops said her marriage certificate was under lens. Pal claimed her only source of income was from social media.
