  • Kolkata: Miscreants posing as police officers robbed two employees of a Maheshtala potato and textile businessman of about Rs 35 lakh on BT Road. They were targetted near Sinthi More Crossing while on their way to office after collecting the cash from a person in Deshpriya Nagar Colony, Baranagar on Friday. One of the employees, Bikram Singh, was arrested later for being allegedly involved in the robbery.

Cops said Bikram and his friends had planned the robbery. The search for the remaining suspects is underway. The money has not yet been recovered. Complainant Santu Saha — the businessman — had sent Bikram and another employee, Sujan Saha, to collect the money. Around 8 pm, the robbers stopped the two-wheeler the employees were riding on.

Claiming to be police officers, they began searching the bag and the scooter. Upon seeing the money in the bag, they assaulted the two employees and fled with the bag full of cash. The businessman informed the police that he received the call from the employee in the evening while he was out of Kolkata. On hearing about the robbery, he rushed back to the city.

Police sources revealed that the two employees initially went to Cossipore Police Station to report the robbery. The officers there took them to the crime scene, which was under Sithi Police Station's jurisdiction. Consequently, Cossipore Police informed Sithi Police. The matter was also reported to the detective department's anti-robbery and anti-snatching units. The businessman filed a written complaint at Sinthi Police Station on.

When the cops were questioning the employees, Bikram confessed to the crime. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes, messages and quotes !
