• Tank clean-up to hit water supply to 5 Salt Lake blocks

  • Kolkata: Five blocks across Salt Lake Sector I will receive reduced water supply for four days from Monday until Thursday night. This is to allow the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to further carry out the ongoing revamp work on water tank 4.

Civic officials stated that work to reconstruct the top dome by slab shuttering and concretisation will be undertaken. This requires the reservoir of the tank to be completely emptied. "Until Thursday, the distribution of drinking water supply will be done through direct online boosting instead of the overhead tank. Due to this, five blocks that receive filtered water from tank 4 — AE, BE, CE, AD, and BD — will experience reduced water pressure," said a civic official.

For the first time, BMC is undergoing major repair, upgrade, and revamp work on all 15 overhead water tanks across Salt Lake in phases. The work is slated to be completed by the end of this year. "This is the first time that major upgradation of all the tanks is being done together in phases. The tanks are undergoing retrofitting, mechanical, electro-civil repair, and upgradation of the overhead and ground-level reservoirs, including the boundary walls, tank structure, and the dome on top," said a civic official.
