  • Kolkata: A man was found dead on the tracks inside the North-South Metro tunnel between Park Street and Esplanade stations early on Friday. The man, aged between 30 and 35 years, remains unidentified. Metro Railway has started a probe into how he could have accessed the premises after commercial hours, especially on Independence Day, when installations were under vigilance. Metro officials said the man was spotted around 2.15 am, following which RPF alerted Lalbazar. New Market PS cops took the man to MCH, where he was declared "brought dead". "The attending emergency medical officer at MCH suggested electrocution was a likely cause of death," a police officer said, adding the man's right hand had burn injuries.

A Metro official said, "We still have no information indicating he was a Metro Railway employee.

" He said CCTV footage was being reviewed to check if the man was present before services had closed for the day, possibly with ulterior intentions. But he dismissed the possibility that he was hired by private contractors for repairs or maintenance work.
