  • Internationally acclaimed Indian swimmer Bula Chowdhury broke down upon discovering that her Padma Shri, Arjuna Award, and other valuable medals and trophies had been stolen from her ancestral residence in Hindmotor, Hooghly district.

Although Chowdhury, who also served as a CPI-M legislator between 2006 and 2011—currently resides in Kasba, South Kolkata, all her awards and accolades from her illustrious swimming career were carefully displayed at her family home in Hindmotor.

The trophies and medals had been meticulously maintained and showcased at the residence. However, during a weekend visit, Bula was left shocked and devastated to find that the entire collection had been stolen.

Her brother, Milan Chowdhury, who lives at the Hindmotor property, revealed that there had been three previous robbery attempts at the house.

Deputy commissioner Arnab Biswas of the Chandernagore Police Commissionerate, under whose jurisdiction Hindmotor falls, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated. Forensic experts visited the site today to collect evidence and fingerprint samples as part of the ongoing inquiry.
