  • Kolkata: Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) is aiming to ramp up production capacity to achieve 777 locomotives target set by the Railway Board for 2025-26. So far, it manufactured 302 locomotives in 115 working days this fiscal.

CLW general manager Vijay Kumar said, "To expand capacity beyond 700 locomotives manufactured in FY 2024-25, we are adopting advanced technologies and promoting indigenisation. Manufacturing quality locomotives at competitive cost is the unique selling point of CLW. To enter the international market for exporting locos to European and other countries, we are exploring avenues of participation in global tenders through RITES.

"The 300th locomotive manufactured by CLW this fiscal was rolled out on Aug 14. Of the 302 locomotives, 228 were manufactured at CLW's Chittaranjan workshop and the remaining 74 at its Dankuni ancillary unit. By June 28, 200 locomotives were manufactured, while the remaining 102 were produced after this date.
