• 3 types of metro stations in focus during PM visit

  • The upcoming stretch of the Yellow Line between Noapara and Jai Hind Biman Bandar which is all set for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 August is to include three kinds of stations, including underground, elevated and on surface.

    The first phase of the Yellow Line spans over 6.77 km with four stations namely, Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road and Jai Hind Bimanbandar stations. The total cost of this project is around Rs 1,866 crore. Of the four, Noapara and Dum Dum Cantonment stations are on viaducts while the Biman Bandar station is an underground station. Jessore Road station is the only station which is being constructed on the surface on this stretch. The station has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including four escalators, two lifts in this station for passengers’ convenience.

    Apart from this, four staircases have also been provided to connect platforms with the subway. Adequate number of AFC-PC Gates will be installed at this station to ensure hassle-free movement of passengers. It is estimated that around 46,000 commuters will be using Jessore Road station daily by 2035. People residing at Nagerbazar, Kaikhali More and Airport Authority of India’s Quarter Complex areas will find it very convenient to go to any part of the city by using this station. The Jessore Road station has two platforms for easy entraining / detraining of passengers.

    The station is at the centre of the limelight as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to flag off an inaugural train from here on 22 August. The PM is also expected to board a metro from Jessore Road station, travel till the airport Metro station and come back to the venue of the inaugural ceremony.

    While the date of commencement of commercial services is yet to be announced by the city Metro, it is expected to commence very soon, informed an official of the city Metro today.
