  • Trinamul Congress MPs submitted a letter to the to the minister of Jal Shakti, C R Patil, raising matters on matters like state’s dues on Jal Jeevan Mission, unprecedented release of water by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and progress regarding providing tap water to every household in state.

The TMC wrote on its official X handle: “Today, our MPs submitted a letter to the Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C. R. Patil, raising matters of grave concern.

“Despite Bengal’s exemplary progress under Jal Swapna, with ~56% rural households already receiving tap water connections, the Centre continues to withhold the State’s rightful dues under the Jal Jeevan Mission. This, when Bengal has already invested ~₹30,000 crore and has projects worth ~₹28,000 crore in progress.

“Such deliberate withholding of funds, along with dues worth ₹1.93 lakh crore across schemes like MGNREGA, PMAY-Gramin & PMGSY, is a blatant assault on the principles of cooperative federalism.

“We urge the Ministry to release the pending ₹2,525 crore immediately, restore allocations for 2025-26, and ensure uninterrupted flow of funds henceforth. The people of Bengal must not suffer due to the Centre’s political vendetta.”

The letter on the DVC water release read: “It is highly alarming that the DVC discharged 11 times more water in 2025 compared to 2024, and 30 times higher compared to 2023. In June and July 2025 alone, the DVC released 50,287 lakh cubic metres of water, compared to 4,535 lakh cubic metres in 2024. This massive and unprecedented discharge in 2025 has devastated districts, destroyed crops, damaged numerous roads, and forced thousands to evacuate. This appears to be a systematic attempt to trigger flood situations in South Bengal.”
