• Mother of jawan killed after Pahalgam attack passes away

  • Tehatta (Nadia): Akiran Bibi (65), the mother of army jawan Jhantu Ali Sheikh who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in J&K in April, passed away at her home in Nadia's Tehatta on Tuesday morning. Her elder son, Rafiqul Sheikh, who is also in the army and posted in Kashmir, said the grief-stricken woman suffered a lot following Jhantu's death. She was under treatment at Command Hospital in Alipore, Kolkata, for a month.

    Jhantu was killed on 24 April during a search operation in the Dude Basantgarh area, days after the terror attack in Pahalgam.

    "My mother was diabetic. After the death of my brother Jhantu, she suffered a lot of psychological trauma. We brought her back home after she slipped into a coma. She died at home around 9.30am on Tuesday," Rafiqul said.
