Kolkata: The Lalbazar brass went into Durgra Puja mode at the monthly Kolkata Police traffic review meeting on Tuesday, with commissioner Manoj Verma asking all traffic OCs to identify and solve three major concern areas — identifying and addressing causes that might affect market-time traffic, identifying stretches where road and light conditions are a cause of worry, and identifying extra parking spots around a dozen pandal clusters.
"The road conditions have emerged as a major challenge. We were asked to maintain daily communication with civic agencies to ensure that roads get repaired before the pujas," said an OC.
Cops said though initial deployment will begin around major markets from Sept, three aspects — extended parking facilities, keeping crossings free of hawkers, and disciplining two-wheelers — will be high on the pre-puja agenda. Local police guards have also been asked to begin on-ground assessment of various pandals. "They will coordinate with the local police stations to understand the themes and footfall. They will also talk to organisers and try to fix parking areas. If there are major additions and deletions, Lalbazar will be informed," said an officer.
