Kolkata: Emami Agrotech, the foods and edible oil arm of Emami Group, is eyeing Rs 2,000 crore revenue from the foods business in the next three years. The company is entering the staples business with atta, suji and maida, and the foods business as a whole will be headed by Vibhash V Agarwal, son of Aditya Agarwal, the third generation of the group.
Vibhash said the company was planning a much bigger foods play with new products in staples, ready-to-eat foods, snacks, sausages and other products. Emami Agro is working with McKinsey and Thinking Forks on this, he added.
Vibhash said the foods business of the company has a yearly revenue of Rs 100 crore that mainly includes spices and soya chunks. "More than a category entry, this is a purposeful move. We aim to bring in quality, trust, affordability and the intangible magic of ‘food happiness' into the ritual of everyday Indian meals," said Vibhash, director, Emami Group.
Emami Agro is a Rs 20,000 crore company in the Rs 30,000-crore Emami Group and has an annual profit of Rs 200 crore. In Bengal, the market size of staples is Rs 900 crore. Vibhash was quite confident of garnering at least 20% market share in the state soon. Besides, Emami Agro has presence in Bihar, UP, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. "We are quite confident of achieving the Rs 2,000 crore target as per our timeline," he said.
Aditya said they were open to acquisitions for a head start in foods but were primarily looking for a company that is strong in the east. He added that rice bran oil was now being considered under the food category, so if one adds this, then the foods business would be Rs 400 crore.
