Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday sought a report from the EC after an petitioner from Kakdwip complained of multiple instances of fake birth and domicile certificates being issued to non-citizens in an attempt to manipulate electoral rolls.
The petitioner's counsel referred to the July 14 order of the court against the issuance of 3,558 fake online birth certificates and 558 fake death certificates by the Pathankhali gram panchayat in South 24 Parganas.
Counsel for the EC informed the court that all such allegations would be investigated during the SIR of electoral rolls in Bengal, for which booth level agents were being inducted.
Justice Amrita Sinha directed the EC to submit a report on the alleged malpractices during the revision of electoral rolls at Kakdwip subdivision, by way of an affidavit, during the next hearing on Sept 10.
