E-W full run from 6pm today; Orange, Yellow Line ops from Monday

Kolkata: Revenue services for the final leg of East-West Metro and the entire 16.6 km corridor will start around 6 pm on Friday, approximately one and a half hours after PM Narendra Modi inaugurates the section. Services on the Yellow and Orange Lines will begin on Monday. However, neither the Noapara-Airport section nor the New Garia-Beleghata corridor will operate on weekends, according to a circular issued by Metro Railway on Friday.
The East-West Metro, which will run its entire Sector V-Howrah Maidan stretch following the linking of the 2.6 km Esplanade-Sealdah section on Friday, will operate from 6.30 am to 10.19 pm. The Green Line (East-West Metro) will be operational seven days a week.
Services on Yellow Line (Noapara-Airport) will operate from 7.58 am to 8.10 pm, while those on Orange Line (New Garia-Metropolitan or Beleghata) will be from 8 am to 8.28 pm.
While TOI reported this on Tuesday, there have been speculations regarding the commissioning date of the three new stretches. In recent instances, whenever a new line was inaugurated by a VVIP, revenue operations commenced at least 24 hours later. "The East-West Metro has already missed so many deadlines. We don't want to delay operations any further," an official said.
The notification stated that services along the entire stretch would commence around 6 pm, covering twelve stations along the Sector V-Howrah Maidan corridor. It will take 32 minutes to traverse the 16.6 km.
Officials also said Yellow and Orange lines will open on Monday as the corridors will not be operational during weekends. This decision has surprised many, especially since the Yellow Line, the city's first airport-metro connection, will not be operational on weekends. "Why can't flyers have metro access on Saturdays and Sundays," asked Subhangshu Basu, a commuter.
