  • Kolkata: PM Narendra Modi on Thursday, barely a few hours ahead of his scheduled visit to Bengal, took to X to flag the "increasing public anger against Trinamool Congress". Modi, who will be on his third visit to the state in the last 12 weeks, also said that people were looking forward to BJP for its "development agenda".

Sharpening his attack on TMC even before reaching the city, Modi posted: "I am eager to be among Bengal BJP karyakartas at a rally in Kolkata. With each passing day, public anger against TMC is increasing. West Bengal is eagerly looking towards BJP with hope because of our development agenda. The city for whose development we are resolute, coming to the people of Kolkata is always a joy for me.

Friday's programmes in the city are mainly focused on connectivity. The Metro services, which will be flagged off, include Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar, Sealdah-Esplanade and Beleghata-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay routes. Connectivity to and from the airport as well as the IT hub areas will be enhanced.

"On Wednesday, Bengal BJP minder Amit Malviya flagged how the Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway in Bengal was stuck at the detailed project report (DPR) stage, although construction had started in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said: "The New Garia–Sector V–Airport Metro is stuck because a tiny 366m stretch at Chingrighata remains incomplete due to bureaucratic hurdles. This delay hurts lakhs of commuters, IT professionals and airport passengers. It is time for urgent intervention now.

""Had the state govt extended its cooperation, the Prime Minister could have even inaugurated that portion this time. It is evident that the state govt wants to put hurdles on the path of development," Bhattacharya added.
