  • A workshop titled “AI-Driven Biology through the Application of Python Programming” was conducted by the Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility Center (BIF) at Kalyani University on 18-21 August. The BIF is funded by the department of biotechnology (DBT), government of India.

The audience consisted of students as well as faculty members. In this workshop we demonstrated the basics of Python focusing mainly on providing hands’-on training. Prof. Partha Pratim Majumdar, National Science Chair and founder director of NIBMG, Kalyani was the keynote speaker and delivered a lecture on the topic. Vice-chancellor, Prof Kallol Paul, in his appreciation message, mentioned the importance of Bioinformatics. Dr Richi V Mahajan, Scientist D, from DBT delivered an invited lecture on the current trends of research. Prof. Angshuman Bagchi, the coordinator of the Center, provided an overview of the centre and the topic. Prof Bagchi thanked the DBT for the funding Prof. Bagchi acknowledged the support from the vice-chancellor, dean, Faculty of Science and all other members of the the Administration, especially the Finance Section of University of Kalyani.

Other members of the BIF, Dr Sima Biswas, Aniruddha Biswas, Dr Dipanjan, Guha, Sreekanya Roy, Anirban Nandy, Jit Mondal, Prithwinil Mukherjee, Mahasweta Ghosh provided the hands-on training on the subject and guided them to solve their problems. By introducing the participants to hands-on training on Python programming and AI applications in biology, the DBT-funded BIF directly contributes to building a skilled workforce capable of handling large-scale biological data, advancing research in genomics, drug discovery, and disease prediction.
