• 16-hour Vidyasagar Setu closure in Bengal from 5am on Sunday for repairs

  • Kolkata: The Vidyasagar Setu will remain shut for all vehicular movement for about 16 hours from 5am to 9pm on Sunday. The closure will facilitate the lifting and placement of steel portal beams at a single location near Santragachi Bus Terminus on Kona Expressway. Moreover, the Setu will undergo repair, including the replacement of stay and holding down cables. The bearings of the bridge will also be replaced, cops said. Kolkata Traffic Police on Friday notified that all vehicles would be redirected through multiple diversion points. The diversion will affect traffic on several major roads, including Kidderpore Road, AJC Bose Road, St Georges Gate Road, and Strand Road. "Westbound traffic on AJC Bose Road will be diverted via Turf View and Hastings Crossing, while vehicles from KP Road will be redirected at 11 Furlong Gate," deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Yeilwad Shrikant Jagannathrao said. | Gold Rates Today in Kolkata | Silver Rates Today in KolkataThe Howrah Police has also issued a separate notification banning the movement of goods vehicles on Kona Expressway on the same day between 4.30 am and 9.30 pm. Police said they are planning measures for the smooth flow of city traffic towards Howrah Bridge. Trucks will be asked to use Nivedita Setu. "We want to ensure that we use Strand Road and Queensway in equal measure" said an officer. According to Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Sujata Kumari Vinapani, vehicles heading to Kolkata from Kolaghat and Dankuni will be diverted via Nivedita Setu.
