After months of uncertainty, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 results were finally announced on Friday, nearly four months after the exam was conducted on April 27. The publication of results had been delayed owing to legal disputes over the implementation of OBC reservations, but a Supreme Court stay on Friday cleared the way for the merit list to be released.

The WBJEE has published the final answer key along with the merit list. Candidates can now download their rank cards from the official portals wbjeeb.nic.in and wbjee.in.

In a short but heartfelt message on X, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered her congratulations: “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the students who have passed the State Joint Entrance Examination. I also extend my congratulations to your parents and teachers. To those who, for some reason, could not achieve good results, I urge you not to lose heart but to prepare for better outcomes in the future. Due to legal complications, the announcement of results was delayed a bit this time compared to previous years. However, I have faith that, overcoming all adversities, you will achieve greater success in the days to come and make Bengal proud.”

The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEE) to release a new merit list of examinees, observing that the one published by the board did not conform to the court’s order on OBC reservations. Justice Kausik Chanda had directed that the fresh panel will provide 7 per cent reservation for the 66 classes of OBC candidates as recognised by the West Bengal Backward Classes Department prior to 2010. However, on Friday, the Supreme Court stayed the HC order, which cleared the way for the merit list to be released.

Leading the merit list this year is Aniruddha Chakrabarti of Don Bosco School, Park Circus, who secured the first rank. Samyajyoti Biswas from Kalyani Central Model School claimed second place, while Dishaanth Basu of Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, stood third. The fourth position was also taken by a DPS Ruby Park student, Aritro Ray.

The fifth rank went to Trishanjit Doloi of Purba International School, Durgapur, followed by Sagnik Patra from Medinipur Collegiate School in sixth place. Sambit Mukhopadhyay of Burdwan Model School ranked seventh, and Archisman Nandy of DAV Model School, Kharagpur, finished eighth. The ninth spot was claimed by Pratik Dhanuka from Delhi Public School, Rajarhat.

With the results now out, attention shifts to counselling and seat allocation, which will be conducted through the State’s Centralised Admission Portal. The counselling process will determine placements in engineering, pharmacy, and architecture programmes across state-run and private institutes.
