1234 Kharagpur/Kolkata: Two Bengal schoolteachers are among the 45 nationwide who will receive the National Teachers' Awards on Sept 5 in Delhi from President Droupadi Murmu.
Bengal govt's Shiksha Ratna awardee Tanusree Das, who began teaching at Kuchlachati Primary School in Kharagpur in 1999, and Madhurima Acharya, who has been teaching computer science at DPS New Town for the past 19 years, will be this year's awardees from the state.
Kuchlachati Primary School, located near Hijli in Kharagpur, is a govt-aided primary school. Tanusree Das took on the role of acting headmistress in 2016. The school recently secured first place in a district-wide ‘Teaching Learning Materials' competition organised by the Samagra Shiksha Mission, competing against nearly 3,500 primary schools. | Gold Rates Today in Kolkata | Silver Rates Today in KolkataTanusree said that most families in this remote area face financial difficulties. "To help students save for high school admission and book purchases, the school introduced a banking system where children deposit small amounts daily. The student council manages these savings, which at times assist families during emergencies. For example, one of the student's mother used the savings to pay for medical treatment," she said, adding that she is delighted to receive the award.
Madhurima has been teaching for the last 22 years. Her focus has always been on real-life learning through the use of technology. She was born and brought up in an interior part of Madhya Pradesh with very limited opportunities.
"In my teaching career, I have always tried to integrate technology and innovation into the classroom, encouraging my students to engage in real-life projects and learn through hands-on experiences. I am deeply thankful to my school and CISCE for giving me this opportunity," she said.
