Kolkata: There is uncertainty over the law entrance test for first-year admission across CU law colleges as affiliation-related issues have not been resolved yet. Thousands of students who want to appear for the Calcutta University Law Entrance Test (CULET) expressed frustration after the admission for undergraduate courses through the centralised admission portal rolled out.
Soumita Mitra, a law aspirant, said, "Four months have passed since the board results are out. I am waiting for the CULET, but I have absolutely no clue when the exam will be conducted. While other friends of mine are attending classes, I am sitting at home, which is extremely frustrating.
" Koushik Banerjee, another law aspirant, said, "I was preparing for the law entrance to get entry into any of the law colleges under CU, but when will the exam be held? There is no other option open for me as it's too late. I am extremely anxious about my future.

" The process was stalled due to the delay in renewal for law courses by the Bar Council of India, which was pending as the required amount of Rs 35 lakh was not paid by the law department of CU.
The matter came to light after a rape incident was reported at a state-aided law college in Kasba under CU. "The matter came to our notice only after the incident. The law department official is responsible for this delay. The matter came to the university when it was too late. However, the university has taken action by forming a committee to address all issues. The required amount was immediately deposited, but it takes some time to get the renewal that we are waiting for. The process will be initiated only after we get the renewal," said an official.
Following an inspection of the admission system across 14 law colleges under CU, several anomalies were identified, after which the university was planning for the refurbishment of the admission procedure involving a third party to conduct the entrance test for maintaining transparency. But the entire process is now pending due to course renewal.
