Kolkata: A 27-year-old woman from Ludhiana, identified as Shreya Verma, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a guest house in Anandapur off the EM Bypass on Monday. Acquaintances here claimed the woman was a bar dancer in the city. Police registered an unnatural death case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Verma travelled to Kolkata recently and was staying at a guest house in the Tagore Park area with her friend Md Chand.
According to initial reports, the duo consumed a lot of alcohol during their stay. Md Chand, who left the guest house at some point, received a distress call from Verma the following morning, complaining that she was feeling unwell. Upon his return, Chand reportedly found her unconscious and sought medical assistance. A private doctor who checked her condition advised she be shifted to a hospital. She was then rushed to Fortis Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Police are also examining the guest house's CCTV footage and questioning staff and other guests to gather more information about the events leading up to Verma's death.
