Kolkata: The Kolkata Police Cyber Cell, which has launched an awareness drive against fake social media profiles, advised users to take screenshots of fake Instagram and Facebook profiles, posts and messages, copy the profile URL and username, and report them. "The campaign aims at educating citizens on how to report fake profiles effectively. We have released a simple-to-understand instructional video to guide netizens on lodging complaints and eliminating fake profiles used by fraudsters to extort money," said a DCP.
A former joint CP (crime) took to Facebook to warn his friends against fake profiles of his being used to defraud people. "Someone hacked my Facebook and is calling my acquaintances... A certain Santosh Kumar (a Hindi-speaking army officer) is calling them (my friends, acquaintances, etc.) saying he is urgently selling all his furniture because he is moving to a new transfer location.
