Kolkata: Five days after Nandita Basu (64) was allegedly beaten to death by her son Mainak at their Beleghata home, Sealdah Court sent the accused to 10 days of judicial custody.
Mainak's legal counsel Sankhajit Mitra filed a bail petition on Wednesday, which was denied by ACJM Sealdah. Mitra said Mainak was in dire need of medication. Mitra argued Mainak suffers from a psychological disorder, which may have contributed to the incident. He cited Mainak's history of mental health issues, including treatments at facilities under the supervision of doctors Debashish Chatterjee and Payel Roy. | Gold Rates Today in Kolkata | Silver Rates Today in KolkataMainak's friends said his mental health issues began in 2009 during his ICSE exams, leading to violent behaviour. Despite treatment, he became irregular with his medication over the past six years, especially after his father's death.
