  • Kolkata: Cops from the Nagerbazar Traffic Guard in Dum Dum on Thursday found a bag—it had Rs 2.5 lakh inside it—lying by Jessore Road and returned it to its rightful owner, barely a couple of hours after the bag fell off his bike.

Chandan Dutta, a poultry trader from Ashokenagar in North 24-Parganas, was travelling from one shop to another in Nagerbazar, when he lost the bag. A team, led by the OC, on duty at the Nagerbazar crossing, noticed a light green bag lying unattended on the side of Jessore Road side. On opening it, they found Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, a black umbrella and five small notebooks inside it. "On going through the content of the bag, they identified the owned and contacted him," said a senior Barrackpore Commissionerate officer.

After proper verification, police returned the bag to Dutta, intact with all the belongings and the cash. Overjoyed, Dutta expressed gratitude to the officers. — Sanjib Chakraborty
