Kolkata: Over 8,500 migrant workers have enrolled for Shramshree since the registration portal for the Bengal's welfare scheme was launched last Friday. CM
announced the scheme a fortnight ago to encourage migrant workers from Bengal in other states to return home.
Migrants welfare board chairman Samirul Islam said the scheme was launched following reports of workers from Bengal being harassed in some BJP-ruled states. Under the scheme, beneficiaries receive a one-time transportation cost of Rs 5,000 to return home and a monthly aid of Rs 5,000 till they get some employment (subject to a time limit of one year).
