Teenage girl murder: Main culprit nabbed within 24 hours

Asansol South police station has arrested one Rahul Paswan, an estranged lover from Durgapur, for allegedly killing a Class 10 girl of Gopalmath, Durgapur.
On Thursday, the girl went to school but did not return. On Friday, her body was recovered from the Damra forest area by Asansol South police. The body was sent to Asansol District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Later, the body was identified by family members who rushed to the hospital.
The family alleged that one Rahul Paswan had raped and murdered their daughter after she refused to continue the relationship. They lodged a formal FIR at Asansol South police station on Friday night.
Police said the youth had invited her to Asansol, where he raped and murdered her to take revenge. The accused was produced before Asansol Court today.
According to investigators, the victim had met the accused through social media. Her family had recently arranged her marriage elsewhere, and she had agreed to marry the chosen boy, leading her to end the relationship with Paswan.
Asansol South police have sought further custody of the accused for the sake of investigation. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
