• TMC slams ex-BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri for sexist jibe at Mahua Moitra; calls it ‘political dialect’ of party

  • KOLKATA: Trinamool on Saturday launched a sharp attack against BJP's former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri for using an expletive (now deleted) against Krishnanagar MP Mahua Maitra in a Facebook post. TMC said the action wasn't a "stray aberration", but the "political dialect of BJP leaders". The expletive loosely translates to a ‘woman of easy virtue'. Incidentally, this comes in the backdrop of BJP attacking Congress for ‘insulting' PM Narendra Modi's late mother.

Using a Facebook screenshot and highlighting the expletive, Trinamool said in an X post: "The vile slurs hurled by Ramesh Bidhuri against a woman MP are not an aberration, they are the political dialect of BJP. Misogyny, hatred and gutter-level abuse have been normalised under Modi–Shah's leadership. The real question: Will BJP dare to punish him? Or is this yet another instance of Amit Shah deploying such crude loudmouths as his mouthpieces, to spew the very venom he himself breeds?"

In a statement, TMC Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh said, "Moitra is a people's representative.

To abuse her... a woman... is shameful and regressive. But then, what else does one expect from BJP? The question is, will BJP act against this foul-mouthed neta? Given what we know of BJP, it will perhaps not. The party inherently believes in this medieval mindset of being anti-women."

This is not the first time that Bidhuri's comments on women have sparked a row. Earlier, he had apologised after attacking Congress's Priyanka Gandhi.

Bidhuri's expletive-laden post on Moitra also contained two unverified photographs of her. The context, though, was the TMC MP's statements on the infiltration issue.

The Moitra-Bidhuri standoff dates back to Feb 2023 when the lawmakers had verbally attacked each other.
