The five were part of a nine-member group who were reportedly drinking inside two cars outside a restaurant at CF Block around 11.30 pm on Sunday. An employee at the restaurant's mocktail counter asked them if they would like to order some food. The employee told the group that if they did not want food from the restaurant, they would have to shift elsewhere as they obstructing their patrons' way.

When one of the group members said they would order food, she asked them to go inside as the eatery was about to close.

Once inside, the group allegedly started making a ruckus, which reportedly disturbed the other guests.

Among the other patrons dining inside was Subarna Dutta Chaudhury, OC of Burtolla Police Station. Witnesses said Chaudhury asked the group to calm down but they allegedly started an argument with him.

The OC quietly called the Bidhannagar North Police Station, following which a team reached the spot.

"But even after we arrived, the group continued to shout and create trouble inside the restaurant. They abused and pushed us. We had no option but to bring five of them to the police station for creating disturbance. Four others in the group were allowed to leave," said a senior Bidhannagar City Police officer.

The officer said after the five were brought to the police station, they turned violent.

"They assaulted two of our officers — an assistant sub-Inspector (ASI) and a sub-inspector (SI) — on the police station premises. Both officers suffered bleeding injuries and required medical treatment," he said.

The five were subsequently arrested under BNS, relating to assault and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties. Senior officers confirmed that legal proceedings were initiated immediately after the incident. Investigators are checking CCTV footage from the restaurant and its surroundings to ascertain the sequence of events and to identify the role of the four others, who were part of the group.

"We are recording the statements of restaurant employees and other patrons who witnessed the altercation. These accounts will help us establish the chain of events," the officer added.
