Shramshree scheme portal, an online platform for registration of migrant workers in the state, as announced by chief minister Mamata Banerjee became operational from today after it was formally launched by the state labour minister Moloy Ghatak.
Mr Ghatak, who formally launched the portal at the state secretariat at Nabanna claimed that the portal had so far uploaded over 20,000 applications for registration by the migrant workers of the state. Those who are still out of the ambit of the online platform of this portal and registering themselves offline, too would be a part of the project.
Under the Shramshree scheme, migrant workers from the state, following registration would be entitled for Rs 5,000 pecuniary benefits per month once they return from other states, till they get reemployment.
Following registration to the portal, a database of migrant workers would be created for maintaining proper upkeep of the migrant workers of the state by providing identity cards so that they would get health, insurance, education and other benefits.
By launching the scheme, political observers said that the chief minister had tried to drive home the message that the workers from the state would be safe in the state
