• ECI should publish a list of false voters across nation: Trinamul

  • Trinamul Congress has demanded publication of a list by the Election Commission of India containing the names of false voters across the country after the names of close to two lakh false fresh names were revealed today in Bihar.

Trinamul Mahila Congress president Chandrima Bhattacharya said around 1.88 lakh false voters in 39 Assembly constituencies in Bihar have come to light after the ECI published a list of 7 lakh false voters in Bihar.

Mrs Bhattacharya said: “On 7 March, the ECI had issued a notification which stated that it would publish a clean voter list in Bihar within three months. However, it did not keep its promise. On 27 July, it issued another notification and said there are 7 lakh fake voters in Bihar. Again today another 1.88 lakh false voters have been identified. It is high time when the ECI should publish a list of false voters across the country.”

She alleged that the ECI has lost its impartiality and is working to help the BJP in the election. “The BJP has destroyed the impartiality of all the autonomous institutions and used them to win elections.”

She said it was Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamul Congress chairperson, who had first pointed out that the ECI was deliberately doing this to help the BJP during the TMC’s foundation day programme at Netaji Indoor stadium on 1, January 2025.

“Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll will take place not across the country, but in those states where elections will be held. We condemn the act of the ECI,” she remarked.

Trinamul spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said two party representatives have gone to Bihar to take part in the rally demanding publication of a clear voter list.

Mr Ghosh said Trinamul Congress chairperson and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee have said over and again that the BJP will deliberately do this to win the election. It did this in Maharashtra and Delhi Assembly elections. “You cannot play if the umpire is on your side. The BJP is trying to demolish the federal structure of India. “If the electoral roll is manipulated then the election becomes a farce. The BJP’s one-point agenda is to establish its control over the states by hook or by crook. The people of Bengal will resist any move to delete the names of genuine voters. Selection of the party is our fundamental right and any move to take away the right will be dealt with seriously. When the name of a voter appears in two places it is not any technical mistake, it is deliberately done. It has been done in a conscious manner and it is a very big conspiracy.”
