Change makers in water conservation recognised
The Statesman | 2 September 2025The glittering award ceremony was graced by Justice K G Balakrishnan, former Chief Justice of India & chairperson, national commission on conversion as chief guest, along with P M Prasad, chairman and managing director, Coal India and Dhriti Banerjee, director, Zoological Survey of India.
In the Individual Category, Ms Lilabati Mahata from West Bengal was awarded for her tireless grassroots initiatives in Jhargram, where she spearheaded pond-based water and soil conservation to enhance irrigation, crop diversification, and farm incomes. James Herenj from Jharkhand was recognised as runner-up for his dedicated efforts in rejuvenating traditional water bodies and empowering tribal communities.
