• SPMP records 16 per cent growth in cargo handling during April-August

  • Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port has recorded a 16 per cent growth in cargo handling during April to August months of the current fiscal. During the period, the city port is said to have handled a total of 28.236 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo, which was an increase from the 24.337 MMT handled during the same period in 2024.

    The growth, according to the SMP office, was a result of the contributions from both its dock systems including Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) and Kolkata Dock System(KDS). As learnt from the official sources in SMP, the HDC handled 20.625 MMT of cargo from April to August, compared to 18.216 MMT in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a robust growth of 13.23 per cent. Likewise, the KDS registered growth by handling 7.611 MMT of cargo during April-August, a significant jump from 6.121 MMT in April-August 2024. This performance marks a growth rate of 24.35 per cent, according to the SMP. Rathendra Raman, chairman of the city port appreciated team SMP Kolkata led by deputy chairman Samrat Rahi.
