Did BJP neta molest a man? Cops caught on wrong foot

Kolkata: BJP councillor Sajal Ghosh has been slapped with a molestation charge, levelled by a man.
The case was filed after Ghosh had allegedly brandished a shoe at a man during the Nabanna march on Aug 9.
Ghosh conceded there was indeed a case filed against him but questioned its relevance. "I did not show any shoe to anyone and even if I did, what grave offence did I commit? Police need to explain how this can be an act of molestation? Which section does it attract? They claim I molested a man. It shows how far police have gone to please their masters," said Ghosh, adding he would respond to summons, whenever required.
At the time of registering the case, Lalbazar had said case number 137, initiated for creating ruckus at a Trinamool rakhi stall, was recorded under sections 79 and 3 (5) of the BNS.
It is this case 137 in which Ghosh was summoned, police said.
Section 79 criminalises any word, sound, gesture or object, intended to insult a woman's modesty, or an intrusion into her privacy.
But cops at the New Market PS said while multiple cases were lodged involving many, they had not tagged Ghosh to any molestation case. "There is no question of charging him with molestation," claimed an officer. Lalbazar said all cases were filed on a specific complaint. "Let the probe progress and charges be framed. All fake narratives will be laid to rest," said a senior officer.
The BJP camp alleged such cases were being fabricated to intimidate opposition.
